Community Organic Garden
Volunteers dedicated to restoring Cardross Railway Station Gardens back to their former glory.

About us
Cardross Community Organic Garden (COG) adopted Cardross station in March 2022 under the ScotRail Volunteer programme “Adopt a Station”. We started with 10 volunteers and numbers to date have almost doubled. We have a varied group of volunteers each with their own skills and we try to encourage anyone who would like to join us regardless of experience or age. We encourage community gardening by having weekly meetups (Wednesdays between 10-11am, Fridays 3-4pm) and on the first Saturday of every month (10-12 noon).
Cardross Station was opened in 1858 and its brick architecture has always made it an attractive building, unfortunately its former beautiful and renowned gardens had fallen into neglect over decades. Over the past 14 months our volunteers have worked determinedly with the goal of transforming the station including platforms, carpark and embankments back to beautiful and productive spaces making our station prestigious again.
Since March 2022 we have installed and planted our boat, train, and whisky barrels, uncovered and planted embankments, raised beds and platform beds, all now vibrant with colour. In addition, we have vegetables, soft fruit, and herbs for the community to use.
Above all we have produced a lovely place to wander along, appreciating the flowers and edible produce, and given our station uses a welcoming, pleasant, and enjoyable experience. Feedback positively suggests station users and those from the wider community have an increasing sense of pride in the station.
Our former beautiful station has returned and is truly growing.
